Seacoast Horse Sitting in Newbury, MA was established in 2012 by two experienced equestrians Lisa Porter and Anne Hawkes, who have first hand knowledge of barn management and pet care. When you utilize the services of SHS you get the extra added benefit of two responsible adults learning the routine of your barn, home and pets. This added benefit means that there will always be an experienced knowledgeable person to ensure the health and safety of your home and pets.
Lisa handles some of our vacation, full day pet care and horse sitting. She provides a fun filled day for a small number of dogs at her Newbury Farm. Her home is the perfect solution for a dog who can not handle large dog day care facilities and a great vacation spot for your four legged companions while you’re away.
Lisa’s love of animals started as a small child. There has always been a dog in her life from day one and her love of horses soon followed. Occasional horse rides sparked an interest in riding that blossomed in her twenties. Lisa then trained with multiple trainers over the next 15 years in hunter/jumper. After that Lisa focused on retraining an “off the track” thoroughbred for pleasure riding. In 2002 Lisa built her own 3 horse barn on her property in Massachusetts “Dreams to Reality Farm”. There she boards 2 horses and raised and trained a 2 year old “Dixie” for western pleasure riding. Dixie just turned 16 and you may have seen her and her stable mate April, another palomino, riding on the local trails and beaches.
While Lisa was passionate about riding and creating a “horsey” home she also worked full time as a Marketing and Advertising Director. Traveling a great deal while maintaining her facility proved to be a challenge and she eventually hired Anne to help at her barn. After many years in the corporate world Lisa partnered with Anne and left her full time position to pursue her passion for animal care. With her background in horse training and care, training and caring for her own dogs and a constant drive to read anything on dog training and pet care her knowledge is continually growing. A certificate in Pet CPR from the American Red Cross and basic knowledge of pet first aid assure that your pet will be well cared for. Lisa’s knack for knowing which dogs will enjoy each others company and plenty of safe large areas for group play, make the property the perfect place for a fun filled day of play and comfortable night sleep.

Anne provides a large number of Plum Island clients with dog walking services and beach walks. She also brings a limited number of dogs into her home for day and vacation care. Works with Lisa on horse sitting assignments and has a large following in house sitting customers for Plum Island homes.
Anne’s lifelong love of animals, combined with her ability to organize and adapt has lead her to finding ways to spend more time with animals. She currently owns two cats, a Coon and a Savannah, a Rottweiler, and a Quarter horse, and has always had animals in her life. Along with ensuring her daughter grows and develops into the person she dreams of becoming and spending time with her husband, Anne is also the “go to person” for her neighbors when care or advice regarding their animals is needed. Maintaining a home that includes so many four-legged members and being a wife and mother, plus running her cleaning business requires organization and the ability to change course continuously, and Anne does this seamlessly.
Anne honed her organization and people skills through her past work as an office manager for a busy construction company. She has returned to horseback riding over the past ten years, a passion that began as a child. She is trained in Huntseat, and can often be seen on Old Rowley Road or Maudsley Park with Fancy, her Quarter horse. In addition, Anne volunteers at the Newbury Equine Rescue Facility in Newbury, and has worked at numerous horse barns, managing all facets of barn care. She is now combining her strengths into one business that allows her to share her knowledge and provide comfort to those who want to travel, but must leave their four-legged family members at home.
